Random person around the children's play area of the IKEA restaurant/café I was hanging out at on Friday.
I have four minutes to type this entry. Let's see how far I can get without making strange typ-os…
Start a new job today. Will be doing what I've always been doing but in an office setting for the first time. I haven't worked in an office since grade 11 or so, which is over a decade ago for me. You'll understand why I'm a bit nervous about the entire thing.
Anyhow, been prepping for this gig the past few weeks, while trying to keep the other contract I'm currently working on in check. Said contract will continue until mid-October which means life is going to be hellish for about a month and a half while I attempt to juggle working on two websites instead of one.
As part of my so-called “prepping”, I've been trying to wrap my head around the concept of dressing in “business casual”, staring at people while on the metro-whatnot, talking to friends, etc. I finally got time to go shopping yesterday, but I still don't think I get it fully. I got the “no-jeans” part, but where is the line between full out business attire and a more casual level??
I understand the need to look respectable but I also want to be comfortable enough to sit in front of a computer for hours on end. Also, business attire has the habit of suddenly turning casual-looking when I put it on. Either that, or it just looks plain horrid on me. However, first impressions and thus the way one dresses in a business setting is always important…
Perhaps I should stick to freelance after all? We'll find out!
Off I go!
